This stone fortress sits atop Hwawangsan Mountain, 739 meters above sea level and the guardian mountain of Changnyeong. It encompasses two peaks, north and south, and has a circumference of 2.7 kilometers. The fortress is believed to have been first built during the Unified Silla period. During the Imjin and Jeongyu Wars, the righteous army commander Seong Cheon-hui, the Miryang magistrate Lee Yeong, and the righteous army commander Gwak Jae-u emerged victorious from this fortress.
